About the Course

The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program at A.J. School of Nursing is a three-year diploma course designed to prepare competent and compassionate nursing professionals. Course Aim

The course aims to prepare professional nurses capable of delivering comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families, and communities while enhancing their professional expertise for expanded roles in healthcare services.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope, responsibilities, and professional standards of nursing practice. They will be equipped to provide safe, effective, and high-quality patient care across diverse healthcare settings while delivering comprehensive nursing interventions tailored to individual patient needs. Graduates will be capable of participating in preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services, supported by strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will demonstrate ethical and professional values, leadership and management abilities, and sound decision-making in clinical practice. The program also fosters critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. In addition, students will develop competencies in teaching, research, and healthcare management, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the nursing profession through active participation in professional organizations and healthcare initiatives.

  • Have passed Plus Two (10+2) or an equivalent examination with English and a minimum of 40% marks.
  • SC/ST candidates with pass marks are eligible.
  • Science stream students are preferred, though candidates from other streams may also apply.
  • Registered ANM candidates and students from recognized open schools are eligible.

Admissions are conducted as per the norms prescribed by the Government of Kerala and the Directorate of Medical Education (DME).

Selection Criteria

  • Merit-based selection through DME.
  • Management Quota admissions as per Government regulations applicable to Self-Financing Colleges.
  • Minimum age: 17 years.
  • No upper age limit.
  • No age restriction for ANM/LHV candidates.
  • Duration: 3 Years.
  • Maximum period for course completion: 6 Years.
  • Total Intake: 25 Seats.
  • Admission is based on merit in the Plus Two or equivalent examination.
  • Preference is given to Science group candidates.
  • Preference is given to candidates with higher marks in English.
  • Preference is given to candidates with higher aggregate marks.
  • Senior age is considered in case of a tie.
  • Selected candidates are required to attend an interview and certificate verification process.
  • 5% reservation for eligible candidates with specified locomotor disabilities.
  • Other reservations are provided as per Government norms.
